We have a very special guest with us for our April 7th MARC Club Meeting! She is Morgan Lyons who is a ham radio operator, President of the Missouri S & T ARC, and a rocketeer!
Morgan Lyons (KI5SXY) is a third-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. She eventually will seek her master’s degree.
After entering college, Morgan joined the Missouri S&T Rocket Design Team. She launched her first rocket in March of 2021 and instantly fell in love with the hobby. Since then, she has participated in the manufacturing and launching of over eight rockets and has achieved her Level 3 certification, the highest honor for amateur rocketry. She is a member of the Tripoli Rocketry Association, an international club for rocketeers, based in the United States. Through amateur rocketry, Morgan discovered a passion for small electronics and radios. She regularly uses these devices to record live telemetry and track her rockets as they fly anywhere between one and six miles up into the atmosphere.
Morgan is an Amateur Extra Class radio operator and currently the President for the second oldest organization on her campus, the Missouri S&T Amateur Radio Club (WØEEE). In this role, she organizes events for the club such as inviting guest speakers, community outreach and testing, and coordinating contest participation. She also manages communications between the club, other stations, and various major amateur radio journals.

From a young age, Morgan has wanted to work in the aerospace industry. She hopes to intern at NASA next summer, and eventually work there full-time.
All are invited to join us at the Massillon Senior Center in downtown Massillon. The meeting is at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow.

March's club meeting was fantastic! Alex McCarthy, KE8LI, spoke on the topic Solar Dynamics. Alex is the Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for Tuscarawas County, Ohio. His presentation was well appreciated by another "full house" on an otherwise stormy, blustery March evening in Massillon.
Again, this month we had visitors from the surrounding area who joined us for the evening. Thank you for joining us! Your presence is welcome and appreciated!
During the meeting it was announced our club Vice-President Don Wade, W8DEA, has purchased and donated a MFJ-2982 vertical antenna. This antenna is 31 feet tall and is essentially a vertical wire. It will be used as a portable antenna for outdoor operations. A training class will be set up soon for assembly instruction.
A big "thank you" to Alex, Don, our honored guests, and you MARC club faithful for making the March meeting a great success! See you in April!
