John Crilly, W8TD headlines our very first meeting at the Ed Center!

The Massillon Amateur Radio Club had its April meeting at the St. Paul Educational Center. This venue is a new meeting location for MARC. By all indications the meeting was a great success. 45 club members and visitors filled the room for the club's very first gathering at this new-to-us location.

John Crilly, W8TD, covered "Ham Radio 101" and provided a great overview of our hobby. He also shared a lot of ham radio history and explored many different ham related activities that are available for individual and group participation.

During this meeting MARC members toured the facility, which was originally built to be an elementary school.

Several important decisions were reached during the business portion of the meeting:

1. The group purchased a Yaesu FT-991a for club use. This radio matches the 991a the club currently owns and uses at its annual Field Day activity. Now that we own two matching sets, an educational class will be held prior to Field Day 2024 for those members not acquainted with the radio's features and operation. This radio was owned by long-time member, and now silent key Terry Russ, N8ATZ.

2. Membership voted to remain meeting at the new location while Club Officers and a to-be-formed committee research and address any concerns and issues about making the St. Paul EC our permanent meeting location. If you are a club member please let us know about any concerns you may have about meeting at the Educational Center. You can do that by taking our club survey here:
